Quick facts about Cuiaba:
Cuiaba is in the mid-west region of Brazil, almost exactly in the middle of the South American continent.
The city is a rich mix of Portuguese, African and native American influences and numerous museums reflect this. Cuiaba is also notable for its cuisine, dance, music and craftwork.
Known as the 'Southern gate to the Amazon', Cuiaba experiences a hot humid tropical climate. During World Cup games in the winter months, temperatures should be more manageable, with drier cooler conditions.

A new stadium will be constructed for the 2014 World Cup. The all new stadium will have a capacity of over 42,000 and will replace the old Verdao Stadium. At a cost of $250 million, the Arena Pantanal will include shopping and conference facilities.

The Marechal Rondon International Airport services Cuiaba and connects the distant outpost to a number of Brazilian cities as well as international destinations. Cuiaba Airport is located in the city of Varzea Grande, around 6 miles from downtown Cuiaba. The airport passenger terminal will be refurbished in time for the 2014 World Cup at a cost of around £10 million.
