2014 World Cup qualifiers - Asia (AFC) 4 teams from Asia will qualify directly for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. One extra place will be up for grabs in an inter-confederation play-off. The qualifying format will be the same as 2010 with a four round qualifying process. 43 Asian nations will compete for the 2014 World Cup berths. Rounds 1 and 2 will be 2 legged knock out fixtures between lower ranked nations in Asia. The draw for these preliminary fixtures was made on 30th March 2011 in Kuala Lumpur. 2014 World Cup qualifying Asia - Round 1 Round 1 first leg matches will be played on June 29th/30th 2011 with the second leg following on July 3rd/4th 2011.
2014 World Cup qualifying Asia - Round 2 Round 2 first leg matches will take place on or around July 23rd 2011 with the second leg taking place on or around July 28th 2011.
*Match abandoned after 40 minutes due to crowd trouble with the score at 2-0 in favour of Oman. Oman awarded the match 2-0 and go through 4-0 on aggregate. Syria disqualified for fielding an ineligible player. Tajikistan qualify.
2014 World Cup qualifying Asia - Round 3 Qualifiers from the first 2 knockout stages will advance to the third stage with the top five seeds Japan, South Korea, Australia, North Korea and Bahrain. A total of 20 teams will play the third stage in 5 groups of 4. The draw for the third round of qualifying in Asia will be made with the main World Cup qualifying draw in Rio de Janeiro on the 31st July 2011. Round 3 quick links:
2014 World Cup qualifying Asia - Round 4 The top 2 teams from each of the 5 qualifying groups will advance to round 4 of Asian qualifying. The 10 qualifiers will be drawn into 2 groups of 5. From these two groups, the top two teams will qualify for the World Cup final stages in Brazil. The best 3rd place team will then contest an inter-confederation two leg play-off for a chance to go through against the fifth placed finisher in South America. The draw for the final round of Asian qualifiers was made on March 9th 2012.
